As I face the sights, sounds, smells and sensations of violence to myself and my loved ones,
in person and in the world around me,
Lord, let me never forget my own humanity.
Lord, let me not hate.
Lord, let me not justify the rage of others.
Lord, let me not respond in violence.
Lord, let me respond with kindness to those who suffer.
Lord, let me respect the humanity of others.
Lord, let me care.
Above all else, Lord, let me not become the person who has harmed those I care for.
Allow me to be gentle in a time of violence and not loose myself.
